Two races, two podiums for Strand

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (June 15, 2021) – Dustin Strand picked up a pair of podium finishes last weekend, highlighted by a runner-up finish with the NLRA Late Models at Greenbush Race Park on Saturday night. 

Action kicked off at Strand’s home track at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks on Friday with a strong field of 21 cars checked in. 

After racing from seventh to third in his heat, Strand rolled off eighth on the grid for the main event. 

Early on, Strand got caught up in an incident not of his doing, causing damage to the left front. Strand was forced to the workarea to get the cosmetic damage removed and restarted at the tail of the field. 

Restarting 14th, Strand worked his way into the top-10 in just two laps before cracking into the top-five on lap 15 of 20. 

The driver of the Millenium SRT No. 71 moved by two more cars in the closing laps to finish third at the checkers. 

“It was eventful to say the least,” said Strand of the main event. “I was kind of hoping for one more yellow at the end, but it was pretty awesome to pass all those cars.”

On Saturday, the NLRA season continued with a trip to Greenbush Race Park. 

Strand started the night by picking up a heat race win. He started fifth for the 25-lapper. 

“I got into the lead around lap five and it turned out to be a one-lane track right around the bottom,” said Strand of the feature race. “There was one traction strip right around the bottom. We got into lapped cars and I should have stayed on the bottom, but I moved up a lane to try to go around a guy and Mike (Greseth) snuck underneath me. He was a little better than me at the end of the race… I was too tight to stay down in the traction. All in all, it was a good night.”

Racing continues Friday night for Strand at River Cities Speedway. Green flag drops at 7:00pm.
