Strand set for first Late Model doubleheader of 2020

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (June 12, 2020) – For the first time this season, Dustin Strand has a WISSOTA Late Model doubleheader on tap. The action begins tonight at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., followed by a visit to Devils Lake Speedway in Crary, N.D.

In four visits to Devils Lake Speedway last season, Strand came away with three podium finishes, including a win. 

“I enjoy racing at Devils Lake. We’ve got a lot of family and friends over that way, so that makes it a little more fun to race over there,” said Strand.

Last Friday night, River Cities Speedway hosted the Late Models for the first time this season. Strand, who led the Late Models with four wins at the Bullring in 2019, was looking to start the year off strong at his home track. 

The night began with a strong charge from sixth to second in his heat, which put the driver of the Ben Adams powered No. 71 in the fourth starting position for the main event. 

“It felt good to be back at the track. It’s been a long time coming,” said Strand. “We had a yellow part way through the feature and after that yellow, I was putting a little bit of heat on Corbett for the lead. I thought we maybe had something for him but he was doing a pretty good job and he got away from us at the end. We’ll just try to get the car a little better for tonight.”

Strand crossed the checkers in the second spot. 

“I left the car pretty neutral. The track conditions we had last Friday were really not normal Grand Forks track conditions – it was pretty dry and dominant in the middle and bottom grooves,” he said. “When they dug the track before the sprint car feature I thought that the moisture might come back out, but it never did. I maybe just misjudged what we had for moisture in the track.”

He currently sits second in the River Cities Speedway Late Model point standings, five markers behind Corbett. Racing at River Cities Speedway begins with hot laps at 6:30 and heat races at 7:00pm.
