Strand looks to extend NLRA points lead during three-race weekend

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (August 20, 2020) – After a disappointing end to a promising night at last Saturday’s NLRA event at Greenbush Race Park, Dustin Strand will be looking for a string of strong runs as the NLRA Late Models kick off a big three-race weekend tonight at Norman County Raceway. Dustin is the current series point leader and has a slim six-point margin over Brody Troftgruben. 

Last Saturday night, Dustin looked to be in line for his second NLRA feature win of the 2020 season, but with 10 laps remaining, the left front suspension failed on the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Millenium SRT, ending his night early.
 
The crew re-grouped for a special Sunday night run with the Modified, and headed south to Sheyenne Speedway in Lisbon, N.D.
 
After winning his heat, Dustin redrew the fifth starting spot for the main event. Utilizing the low side of the Ransom County quarter-mile oval, Dustin was running fourth through the first six circuits of the 25-lapper.
 
On the 10th lap, Strand went three-wide with Brent Dutenhoffer and Tyler Peterson for the second spot, which he picked up by the completion of the lap.
 
Strand made the move to the cushion shortly thereafter, and started chasing down Michael Greseth for the lead. In the waning laps, Dustin was able to hold off Dutenhoffer for second as the checkered flag flew.
 
This week, Dustin will turn his focus back to the Late Model, as the NLRA series will race three times in three nights. The first night will be at Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN, where Dustin will return as the most recent winner.
 
"I wish we could run here more often," Dustin said of Ada three-eighths mile oval. “It’s a fun track, we've raced a lot with the B-Mod and the A-Mod, and we used to love [going there] weekly with the A-mod."
 
The mini-series continues on Friday night at River Cities, where Dustin is a six-time series winner, and has three wins in weekly competition in 2020.
 
The series ends with a visit to Jamestown Speedway, where Dustin has two series wins in 2012 and 2015.
