Strand has strong outings at Norman County and Devils Lake with NLRA

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (June 30, 2021) – Two out of the three races for the NLRA Late Models were completed last week, as Dustin Strand and the 71 team scored a pair of top tens, including a top five at Devils Lake Speedway.

Strand’s week started last Thursday night at Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN for the annual NLRA show during the Norman County Fair.

Strand won his heat race from the third starting spot, putting him in a spot in the NLRA redraw. Strand drew the six pill, and started on the outside of the third row in the 25 lap main event.

Strand raced into the top five at the drop of the green and stayed there through the first dozen laps before a caution on lap 13.

Strand lost a spot on the restart, but remained within striking distance throughout the last half of the race, finishing seventh.

On Saturday, Strand returned to Devils Lake Speedway and finished 3rd in his heat race after starting 5th, earning him a 10th place starting spot in what would prove to be  the final main event of the weekend with the rainout at River Cities the following night.

Strand wasted no time moving forward, as he was already inside the top five with five laps completed.

Strand moved up to fourth on a lap six restart, utilizing the top side of the tricky third-mile oval.

Strand remained fourth through a pair of cautions with 13 and 11 laps remaining, respectively, and continued on to a fourth place finish.

Despite two solid runs, Strand summarized his week as “so so”. 

“I maybe misread the track on Thursday in Ada. It changed more than I thought it would in the feature. Devils Lake got rain the night before and just before the races. Overall, it was a good weekend.”

Strand will race once this weekend, as he’ll return to weekly competition at the River Cities Speedway on Friday, which was rained out last Sunday.
