By Spieker Promotions EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (July 28, 2020) – It was a two-win weekend for Dustin Strand this past weekend as Strand collected wins in both the Late Model and Modified. The action began on Friday night at River Cities Speedway with the NLRA Late Models for the Bemidji Marine / Carr’s Grain Service No. 71 team.
After picking up a heat race win, Strand started on the pole for the 20-lap feature. Strand took the lead on lap one, but his race was far from over. Four-time and defending NLRA series champion, Brad Seng, was hot on his heels in the early going, but Strand was able to extend his advantage when he encountered lapped traffic at the halfway point. With Seng getting held up in traffic, that allowed Strand to pull away to a big lead. In the closing laps, Seng began to find his groove and became a contender again with five to go. Seng got to within three car lengths of Strand with three to go, but again, Seng was held up in traffic, which ultimately sealed the win for Strand. “It helps to start up front for sure, but when you’ve got the 12S car breathing down your neck, it gets a little hectic. But it worked out really well,” said Strand of his battle with Seng after the race in victory lane. “Going through lapped cars, it got a little tight a few times. The track was pretty technical. There was a lot of traction in spots, but if you just missed it, you got hung out. I just have to thank everybody that makes this thing rock and roll. Nate, Timmy and my dad in the pits, they work their tails off.” Strand’s win was his third of the season at River Cities and extended his points lead to seven over Seng in the track standings. On Saturday night, Strand took his WISSOTA Modified out to Greenbush Race Park in Greenbush, Minn. After a charge from eighth to second in his heat, Strand rolled out fifth on the grid for the 20-lap feature. Strand wasted no time working his way to the front. The driver of the Millenium SRT machine took the point on lap three and never looked back. Strand cruised to the win to score his third Modified win of the season. This weekend, a big three-race swing with the NLRA Late Models is on tap. First up, is Norman County Raceway in Ada, Minn. on Thursday night, followed by a visit to River Cities Speedway on Friday. The weekend wraps up with a stop at Devils Lake Speedway in Crary, N.D. on Saturday. Strand has one NLRA win at Norman County, which came in 2012. He has scored four career NLRA wins at Devils Lake and also won a WISSOTA Late Model special there earlier this season.
