By Spieker Promotions EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (July 7, 2020) – Dustin Strand returned to his home track, River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, on Friday night and claimed his second Late Model win of the season. The win came in thrilling fashion as Strand led just the final two laps. A strong run from fourth to first in his heat race put Strand on the outside of row three for the 20-lap WISSOTA Late Model feature.
Strand powered his way into the second spot on the opening lap, using the extreme high side of the speedway. From there, he set his sights on Brandon Fuller for the lead. Fuller ran a fast pace but Strand was able to stay within about three car lengths of the No. F9 until the final caution came out with four laps to go. On the ensuing restart, Strand again went to the top side of the speedway and pulled even with Fuller. The lead duo ran door-to-door for the next two laps before Strand was able to clear for the lead coming to the white flag. Fuller made one last charge at Strand on the final lap, but Strand was able to hang on for the win – his first at River Cities this season. “It was fun to finally be able to rip the top here again. I feel right at home up there,” said Strand in victory lane. “In turns one and two I was maybe a little bit better than Fuller on the top if I hit it just right. Turns three and four were really tricky. That was a heck of a race.” Saturday’s NLRA event scheduled for Greenbush Race Park was canceled due to rain. Strand will return to River Cities Speedway this Friday night to compete with the WISSOTA Late Models. On Saturday, he will be heading to Greenbush Race Park with his WISSOTA Modified. Strand hasn’t raced his Modified since May 17th at Casino Speedway in Watertown, S.D., where he scored a third-place finish.
